This Week At Unity

With only one more week until Christmas, Rev. Diane Sickler’s message this Sunday is entitled “So Much To Give”.  Let us reflect on the act of giving and what it is that we have to share this Christmas.

During this Sunday, and the next two after that, our own Rev. Diane McCarty and i will be doing some duets for the special music. As such, the kids will not go upstairs for the Sunday School until after that. In the Sunday School class we will be talking about a ritual process shared by every Native American tribe on this continent as well as many other parts of the world, and sharing how each of us can do this for the greater good of all of the earth. The “Message worth Reading” below speaks somewhat to the value of this ritual.
Following the service this week we will have our monthly potluck dinner, and everyone is invited whether you have something to share or not, and there has always been enough. Considering the holiday season, we can expect some wonderful holiday treats so come and share the joy.
After the potluck our Unity board will be meeting, and these meetings are always filled with humor, wit, beauty and wisdom so feel free to stay and enjoy the process. And, also tell them what you you like, and the things that you would like to see changed. If we do not communicate with our board then they cannot represent us properly.

There are a couple of openings on the board if anyone is interested in serving in than way. We also need someone to take over the newsletter as of the 1st of January, and a new Sunday School teacher as of the 1st of June. If anyone is interested in helping with these positions then talk with Jerry Neary.

Our Unity Prayer Request Box

We encourage you to make a list of all of your prayer concerns for both yourself and others, and to put it in the prayer request box either before or after the service on Sundays. Then, our Prayer Chaplain, Rev. Diane McCarty, will pray concerning them each day, and will send them on to Silent Unity where they will also be prayed about every day for 30 days.

Feel free to bring a new prayer list every Sunday.

Your Tithes and Offerings at Work

During our last board meeting we voted to split our church tithe between Unity Worldwide Ministries, and the ministry headed by Rev. Art Suggs to help the financially impoverished families in the area around the First Congregational Church. Rev. Art does this is such a way that it is not seen so much a handout as something they feel they have earned, and that builds their self-esteem in the process, so this is a program that helps our collective local community, and that we want to support in this way.

From time to time – due to what is going on in the world – we may choose to support other things as well, and we shall endeavor to keep you informed as to how your tithes and offerings are being used.

We are Developing a New Mission Statement!

In a workshop led by Rev. Diane Sickler the participants from our congregation explored such questions as “Why does Unity in the Southern Tier exist in my life?”, “What does Unity in the Southern Tier stand for?” and “Who have I come here to be?”. Then we worked through the various lists that were developed, and we came to the point of determining this:

“The purpose of Unity in the Southern Tier is to provide a spiritual community that expresses Unity Principles and Universal Spiritual Law in an atmosphere of loving acceptance, healing, joy, gratitude and self-discovery.”

As we continue to explore our purpose and develop our mission statement then we shall keep you informed of when and where we will be meeting so that each of you can come and participate in this process.

A Message Worth Reading

“From childhood, we begin hiding our inner self away. We learn to adapt and survive in the outside world. Our families and peers teach us socially acceptable behavior. Our educational system teaches us the technical and social skills we need to sustain a material life. As adults, we are thrust into a society geared towards materialism and maintaining the status quo.

Rarely, especially in the early formative years, are we taught inner development; with an emphasis on intuition, the subconscious mind, independent thinking, self esteem, self-confidence, psychic or inner spiritual growth.

Is it any wonder the Inner Self becomes lost in the business of the outer world?

Yet, despite all this, the inner self does remain alive in everyone and many are ready to heed its call. That is why the mystical traditions exist today and have for centuries, offering people a way to realize their own infinitely powerful and divine nature.

Mysticism teaches cosmic laws and principles by which we are brought into closer consciousness of our divine power. The mystical experience of union with the One imposes upon the mystic a moral obligation — to use this knowledge for the welfare of others.” Rosicrucian Manuscript

This is also why the Unity Movement is in the world today.

Become a Licensed Unity Teacher!

Did you know that you can get credit for courses from Unity toward becoming a Licensed Unity Teacher or Unity Minister through the classes taught by Rev. Diane Sickler following the service on the first Sunday of every month.  Our youngest Board member, Kenneth Main, is one of the ones taking the class for credit so be certain to ask him about how this works.

Our Prayer Chaplain, Rev. Diane McCarty, is available every Sunday after the service to pray with you. We also invite you to place a prayer request in our Prayer Box where it will be prayed over by our Prayer Chaplain and then forwarded to Silent Unity. Your request will be included in prayer 24 hours a day for 30 days. You may also contact Rev. McCarty for prayer or information about Unity In The Southern Tier by calling: (918) 520-5426. Her email address is

Youth and Family Ministries

Unity in the Southern Tier is now offering children and youth programs each and every week. Our young friends will join us for the opening hymn and greeting, after which they will be led to their classroom for their lesson. We are truly excited to finally be able to offer this programming as part of our new and expanding ministry. We hope you will pass this on to any of your friends or family that have not been able to attend Unity services because of child care issues. This is our opportunity to reach out into the community and serve all who wish to come. Thank you all for your patience as we worked on making this dream become a reality.

Concerns and Suggestions

If anyone has any concerns about anything happening during or around our services, and of course suggestions on how to make them better, then please reply to this email, and share your thoughts with us. They will be sent to your Unity Board of Trustees, and we will do what we can to make things better for everyone. We may not be able to please everyone all of the time, but we endeavor to do so most of the time. And, we also encourage you to come and share your ideas with us at future board meetings.

Our Prayer Chaplain, Rev. Diane McCarty, is available every Sunday after the service to pray with you. We also invite you to place a prayer request in our Prayer Box where it will be prayed over by our Prayer Chaplain and then forwarded to Silent Unity.
