This Week at Unity 5/20/18:

Rev. Diane Sickler’s last Sunday will be this coming one, May 20th.  She is planning on a lesson based on her personal experiences over the years.  She loves to tell stories and while you may have heard one or two of these… perhaps you haven’t.  So come and join with her as she says good bye to Binghamton.

Retirement Luncheon for Rev. Diane Sickler:

We’re taking Rev. Diane out for lunch following her last service this Sunday!  We will be treating her to lunch at Olive Garden on the Vestal Parkway in Vestal.  Those attending will be ordering off the menu and paying for their own lunches (except for Rev. Diane).

Please join us as we thank Rev. Diane for her decade of service to Unity In The Southern Tier!  Let Liana Railsback or one of the board members know if you are coming so she can call in the number attending before we leave the church.

A Message From Rev. Diane Sickler:

Life has an interesting way of moving us into changing circumstances.  Being non-exempt from change, I realized that it was time for me to retire from serving Unity in the Southern Tier.  I have already given my notice to the Board of Trustees. My last month of service will be this May.  I have enjoyed being part of this Spiritual Community on and off for 10 years.  I will continue to pray for and love all of you.  I know that the Board is planning some sort of special celebration for my retirement and hope that you can come.  I also hope that all of you will get a chance to attend my last service scheduled in Binghamton this Sunday, May 20th.  I’m looking forward to many wonderful hugs this week.

On June 9th  we will have Tom Meade presenting on the “Emotional Freedom Technique” from 1-3:00pm. Tom Meade, a dowser for over 20 years and a Holistic Practitioner based in Endicott, NY, for the last 10 years has been teaching dowsing and Emotional Freedom Technique for the last 15 years. As a practitioner Tom has helped hundreds of client to heal themselves through dowsing, EFT, Reconnective Healing and L.I.F.E. Systems bio-feedback. Tom also trains athletes through his “Mental Training for Athletes” program.  EFT has provided 100’s of thousands with relief from pain, dis-eases and emotional stress. Simply stated, it is an emotional version of acupuncture, except the needles are aren’t necessary. Instead you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips, while verbalizing your negative issue and then following up with the reciprocal positive statement. Our unresolved negative emotions are major contributor s to most physical pain and dis-eases. Thus, by removing emotional trauma, EFT  helps heal physical symptoms as well. EFT works on the principle of bringing a negative issue to the surface, addressing it and then removing it and replacing it with a positive follow up. As issues and tangent issues are cleared the core issue becomes cleared as well. Eric Robins, MD “Someday the medical profession will wake up and realize that unresolved emotional issues are the main cause of 85% of all illnesses. When they do, EFT will be one of the primary healing tools…as it is for me.”   Tom can be reached at or 607 343-7124.

You won’t want to miss these workshops! More details to come.

The Courage To Imagine

The 2018 Unity yearly theme is The Courage to Imagine. It is through the power of imagination that we can transform our lives. Whatever outcome we envision, we can achieve. Using this gift, we can release limiting thoughts and realize our divine potential.

The 5 Basic Principles of Unity Teachings

Unity encourages you to explore and apply Unity teachings based on your own spiritual understanding. We believe this spiritual understanding is enhanced through reflective prayer and meditation. The five basic ideas that make up the Unity belief system are: 1) God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere. 2) We are spiritual beings, created in God’s image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good. 3) We create our life experiences through our way of thinking. 4) There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God. 5) Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.

Do You Know About the 12 Powers?

The Twelve Powers are core abilities within each of us that we are using whether we know it or not. We consciously use them to handle every life situation so we can be the best we can be. Each of our Twelve Powers has a focused use and purpose, and we use them together, in concert, to master the art of living. They are faith, strength, wisdom, love, power, imagination, understanding, will, order, zeal, elimination, and life.- Rev. Kelly Isola

What is Affirmative Prayer?  (from

When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for something.

Not so in Unity.

Unity uses “affirmative prayer.” Rather than begging or beseeching God, this method involves connecting with the spirit of God within and asserting positive beliefs about the desired outcome. Affirmative prayer is the same method of prayer Jesus taught when he said, “So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24).

If, for example, one were to pray traditionally, one might say: “Please God, help me find a job.” By contrast, an affirmative prayer might be: “I am now guided to my right and perfect employment.”

Affirmative prayer reflects the certainty that we are each being led to our highest good, despite any temporary appearances.

Metaphysicians believe that thoughts transmit magnetic energy and this energy attracts other energy of the same frequency. Whether you are conscious of it or not, your thoughts are transmitting energy that is attracting more of the same. When you remain focused on your intentions, you will draw those things into your life.

Rosemary Ellen Guiley, author of Prayer Works, states that affirmative prayer “sets into motion the forces that enable us to manifest what we pray for.”

She adds, “Prayer is ineffective when it is accompanied or followed by negative thinking, or the endless repeating of affirmations. We have to put power and intensity into our thought, change our thought, and believe in the guidance we are receiving. If we spend energy on negative beliefs and feelings, we will get negative results, even if we and others pray daily for us. For example, if you pray for a job and then complain to others that you have no job or can’t find one, you are undermining your prayer.”

By using an affirmative prayer approach, we can visualize and plan for the future with faith that the power of God is continually blessing our lives with unlimited possibilities. Affirmative prayer leads to an awakening of our spiritual selves. In faith, we pray giving thanks in advance that the Universe is meeting our every need.

Our Unity Prayer Request Box

We encourage you to make a list of all of your prayer concerns for both yourself and others, and to put it in the prayer request box either before or after the service on Sundays.  Prayer requests will be sent on to Silent Unity where they will also be prayed about every day for 30 days.  Feel free to bring a new prayer list every Sunday.
